Work
The beginnings
I created my first web page in 1999 as a course exercise for the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. My first web-related job was developing an XML-based personalization method for an electronic newspaper, in 2000.
A year later, I worked for the Jyväskylä Summer Jazz, a festival organisation in my hometown. From that web project I learned the basics of designing and developing websites in a team.
In summer 2001, I did a traineeship at a real-estate agency in Chamonix Mont-Blanc, France. I worked on their website and helped creating a client database.
In 2002, I graduated from the University of Jyväskylä in Finland with a degree of Master of Economic Sciences, majoring in Information Systems Science. I decided to move and explore job opportunities in the heart of Europe, Brussels, Belgium, in spring 2003.
Brussels
Between 2003 and 2010 I worked in Brussels for a communication/web agency (providing services mainly for the European Commission), private sector media companies and a non-governmental organization.
From these diverse jobs I gained plenty of practical project experience in multinational teams and a good understanding of web architecture, standards and accessibility best practices. During those years I worked mainly on LAMP stack developing sites with open source web frameworks, such as Drupal, MODX, Joomla!, ExpressionEngine and WordPress.
Copenhagen
In 2010 I moved back to Scandinavia, to Copenhagen, where I’m currently working as Creative Developer at LBi Denmark, the Danish office of the global digital marketing and technology agency LBi.
Specialties
My main interests are HTML5 APIs, unobtrusive JavaScript, semantic and clean markup, SEO, WCAG 2.0, WAI-ARIA, code and performance optimization, code quality tools, continuous integration, mobile web and responsive enhancement.
