Silos are local optimisations, and teams tend to become silos.
Silos are local optimisations. Teams are often local groups, so they tend to become silos.
Each team optimises its own slice, and the metrics improve. But the seams between teams quietly rot, bottlenecks grow, and delivery stalls. That’s proof that very few people are looking at the whole system, where effects are nonlinear and arrive late.
I believe in teams that include everyone needed to deliver, wherever they sit, plus someone designing and improving the connections in and between those teams. In other words, paying attention to how the parts connect, not just how each part performs. Anything less is just local optimisation.
AI-enhanced distributed teams are one good way to tackle the silo problem.
